Book about a spitting cobra blinding a man?

Hii, I’m not sure if this is the right subreddit or not but I’ve been trying to remember the name of a book.

I don’t really remember the whole plot other than an man being blinded by a cobra so he takes up shelter in a cave waiting while the young boy he’s with goes to find help.

I think it took place in Africa or somewhere in the desert?

Does the plot or any of this sound familiar? Or am I just imagining that I read this book in the fourth grade 🤡
