I am looking for gift suggestions for a 13(F) that I do not know. This is through an Angel Tree like program and one of the requested gifts is books. What are some books that if you were her, you would want to physically own?
I intend to include a gift card to a local bookstore as well.
Thank you.

Okay, so I teach 7th & 8th grade literature, and I have found that everyone— from the kids who only read baseball biographies, to the romance girlies, and everything between and around — love dystopian fiction. It’s a safe bet regardless of personality or other preferences at that age.
The Giver is a great choice. I have genuinely never come across a student who isn’t riveted by this book. Hunger Games, Divergent, and Maze Runner are also very popular with all my students.
I loved Uglies by Scott Westerfield when I was 13. Also The Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter
The Westing Game. Really fun book
If there’s any indication she likes fantasy a couple of solid recommendations that I loved around that age:
The Old Kingdom series by Garth Nix
Song of the lioness by Tamora Pierce
Redwall series by Brian Jacques
