BotNS quartet and Lonesome Dove are both quite different but both manage to be epics that keep a philosophical/intimate aspect. I want something that juggles the speculative fictiony, heady surrealism of Wolfe but still has a heart of human struggle like LD. Perhaps with characters who have unique or abnormal struggles. I also want a unique setting, probably historical or science fantasy but I’m open to whatever.
I was considering Shogun and Pillars of Earth, but I want something more surrealist or experimental first.
