I’m looking for recommendations for realistic fiction set in Central/South America, ideally by authors from there. I’m already a big fan of Isabel Allende, so no need to mention her.

I’m open to any genres, but the story needs to take place in one or more countries in that region, and to be set in fairly recent times (say the last decade or so).

I’m not looking for books about characters living in the US or emigrating to somewhere else, I want to get to know the culture and daily life for people living in that region.

I’m particularly interested in Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Guyana and Panama, but happy to receive recommendations relating to other countries as well.
