Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but reading other people’s experiences of their lives has helped me to be more non-judgmental. I recently finished [The Glass Castle](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7445) by Jeannette Walls and it made me realize that some people go through a lot during their childhood even though they may end up being “normal” in their adult lives.
