an example of a work that is so masterfully written that the atmosphere, feelings, ect are tangible and you can envision it like a film? + great pacing, build-up and character development.
preferably something more modern/contemprorary but feel free to suggest the classics too.
also a bonus if the story is rather bizarre or twisted so the writer’s ability to pull the reader in and captivate them is all the more impactful.

For me *East of Eden* fits this bill. Even the somber parts are so well written it feels beautiful.
Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel is my go-to recommendation for moody reads! Just amazing!
