I absolutely love Bill Bryson’s travelogues. I also enjoy Maarten Troost and Paul Theroux.
Recommend your favorite travelogues that provide a strong sense of place, good descriptions, delve into the history of the location, and include fun facts about it.
Bonus points if the setting is a tropical island or some coastal region, but any suggestion is welcome except for Antarctica and expeditions on Mount Everest.

Jonathan raban is the third name in my travel triumvirate. more literate and introspective than Bryson or Theroux, focused quite a lot on water travel. old glory is great.
My favorite have always been:
* Pico Iyer
* Bruce Chatwin
Blue Highways by William Least Heat-Moon is my defining book
100 places to see after you die is a fun twist on travelogues 🙂
