I don’t know what all she’s read exactly because she only gives me descriptions, not titles. She especially likes murder mysteries, but ones that keep violence or graphic descriptions to a minimum and that give a good balance between the investigation and the personal lives of the characters. The ones she’s really liked take place in the first half of the 20th century (1920s-1950s), set in England or old American towns. She’s also finds forensics fascinating, so books incorporating that would be good, too. Modern writers would probably be better, I don’t think she’d be into e.g. Agatha Christie.
I apologize if this isn’t a very detailed description. Anything you can suggest would be much appreciated!

Strong Spirits (The first book in the Daisy Gumm Majesty Mystery series)
by Alice Duncan
Welcome to sunny Pasadena, California, just a stone’s throw from Hollywood. The 1920s are in full roar. Prohibition isn’t stopping anybody, and Daisy Gumm Majesty is getting by the best way she knows how – catering to the rich and famous as a medium who put the “con” in conjuror.
