    Hi all,

I’m looking for an engaging, science communication style read on animal cognition. The sort of topics I’m interested in are: animal decision-making, problem-solving, tool-building, language, recognition of self and others, emotional readouts, etc.

I would want a credible author in the field who cites primary literature. Been searching for a whole and haven’t found anything that fits the bill and is actually fun to read.

    Thanks!

    1. “The Archaeology of Mind: Neuroevolutionary Origins of Human Emotions” by by Jaak Panksepp and Lucy Biven focuses on the physical structures underlying basic emotions. The focus is really on the ‘seeking’ system (associated with feelings of excitement, engagement, and impending fulfillment), that’s clearly the focus of their research.

It might be a bit dry though.
