In my childhood, I was an avid reader, but as a teenager and young adult (I’m 20M), I didn’t read much except for school-related materials. Recently, I read “The Haunting of Hill House,” and I also enjoyed the Harry Potter series during my teen years. Now, I’m eager to dive back into reading. Can you recommend some essential books that every reader should explore?

Pretty Girls by Karin Slaughter got me back into reading. The story was really interesting and engaging and I read a couple of her other works.
Kings of the Wyld. Fun, comedic, and not super complicated. Definitely recommend.
The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
His Dark Materials which is a trilogy of fantasy novels by Philip Pullman
Sea of Tranquility by Emily St John Mandel
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Animal Farm by George Orwell
Try The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I’ve read most of those books several times over the years. It is a completed series, so no cliff hangers.
Try Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card. Either just the first book or the series. I’m not sure it’s a complete series, but it’s a good read.
Also the Alvin Maker series. It is also by Orson Scott Card. It is not completed, but I still enjoyed the books.
These are some books I enjoyed in my younger years. Back when I was an avid reader.
I also enjoyed books by Tom Clancy and John Grisham.
