For the last several years I’ve gotten my uncle books for Christmas that tend to be science-based (natural history) but also range from tongue in cheek to outright humorous. Typically these are books that I also have either read (and loved) or haven’t read yet, and read after the fact. So far, here’s a few I’ve gotten him that i can remember:

    Fuzz by Mary Roach
    What If? by Randall Monroe
A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson
The Drunken Botanist by Amy Stewart
(If i think of others I’ll add them to this list)

So anything that you can think of that fits in this kind of mini-genre would be awesome!

    Many thanks!

    1. The Weinersmiths are a husband+wife team. Kelly is a behavioral ecologist specializing in parasite-host relationships, Zach writes+illustrates the nerdy comic “Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal” and provides the diagrams for the books.

“Soonish” was their first book and while it’s a little older, but I wouldn’t call it out of date, and is about near-future technologies. My dad particularly loves the crazy saga of Saddam Hussein, a mad Canadian, and a Space Gun. “A City On Mars” just came out, and is about mars colonization.

Zach also wrote “Science: Abridged Beyond the Point of Usefulness” which is available online, if you want to test-run their humor.

I bought “A City on Mars” for my dad this Christmas, and am looking forward to being the favored child in 2024.
