One of my favorite Non-fiction books is called “Ghost in the Wires” by Kevin Mitnick, a true story about a guy that was casually hacking some of the worlds biggest companies basically just for fun in the 90s and ending up in some crazy situations.

Its a crazy story, but it is unique/niche enough that it never comes up in casual conversations, so I’ve never really recommended it to anyone, even though it’s one of my favs! I’m just waiting for the convo like,

Friend: “Hey so the other day I was trying to hack into Taco Bell’s servers…”

Me: “Oh, I didn’t know you were into that, have you read “Ghost in the Wires”? I think you’d really like it!”

Maybe I just need shadier friends.

Anyone else have a book like this??

    1. Horror-comedy isn’t the most popular genre, but I always recommend Tales from the Gas Station by Jack Townsend.

    2. That book was very interesting, I liked it as well. (He passed away earlier this year, RIP Kevin). I guess my book like that is Columbine by Dave Cullen. I absolutely loved it, the insight into Eric and Dylan, the debunking of the myths, the look at the role the media played after the shooting. It’s a 5* book for me but hard to recommend.

I once picked up a book called “Proust’s Overcoat” on a whim and it turned out to be pretty interesting. It was about a man who collcted Proust memerobilia and got a tip that Proust’s overcoat still existed in storage. The book then goes into winding discussions about Proust, modernism, collectors, sacrifices for the arts, eccentrics, and much more.
