Rex Ogel has three YA memoirs about growing up with his bipolar mother who was very abusive towards him as a child, not so much his younger brother. The first is Free Lunch.

Realise it’s probably not quite what you’re after, but suspect you might find *I’m Glad My Mom Died* by Jeanette McCurdy interesting. The novel/memoir *Running With Scissors* by Augusten Burroughs might belong on the same list. Again, neither are proper studies, but may still interest you.
