    1. Inverting the Pyramid by Jonathan Wilson is a fantastic book, it covers the origins of the game and highlights tactical developments over the last ~150 years. It can be pretty dense at times with a lot of names and history, but overall it’s a pretty rewarding read.

For something a little lighter and more focused on the modern era I would recommend Zonal Marking: The Making of Modern European Football by Michael Cox. Very accessible, but still with a decent amount of depth there.

I’ve read a couple other football books so if neither of these sound like your thing feel free to let me know and I’ll see if I can get a little more specific.

There is a really good magazine Mundial which comes out quarterly. Well worth looking into.
