all the classics i’ve read are quite dark and heavy, if anyone has any classics or modern classics which are more light and comforting please let me know
Less by Andrew Sean Greer won the Pulitzer Prize a few years ago. It’s delightful and sweetly comedic. A real treat to read, and very well-crafted.
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams is a classic in the sci-fi genre, and is very funny.
I also like the Richard Osman Thursday Murder Club series. They are modern mystery classics and I think they fall into the category of a “cozy mystery” — not psychological thrillers, not true crime, very limited suspense and gore. Just really charming characters and thoughtfulness about how they relate to each other, plus a pretty interesting mystery in each one. Do read them in order if you decide to go down that route.
