The closest example of what I’m after is essentially ASOIAF or the House of the Dragon (Television series), for the following reasons:
It”s a series with a large cast of characters that are extremely detailed and well realised in their characterisations, motivations, layers, choices coming into conflict with one another in an unforgoving world.
As mentioned, I’m after books or series of any genre or sub-genre that provides a similar experience, not necessarily Fantasy.
