If you are into WWII fiction, I would highly recommend “Prisoner of Night and Fog” duology by Anne Blankman. The author had done extensive research on the time period and it shows. The main character is from Hitler’s inner circle and views him as pseudo-father figure, because she feels isolated in her own family. There is romantic subplot, but heroine’s relationship with Hitler and how she gradually understands that he used her naivete for his own benefit, is the most essential part of the story.
Continuing with the topic of WWII, there is also Wolf by Wolf series by Ryan Graudin. It’s a speculative fiction about what would have happened if Hitler had won. The jewish main character, who is also a shapeshifter, infiltrates cross-continental motorbike race in order to win and kill Hitler. It’s full of action and also explores how the nazi regime and the war traumatized people in different ways
There is also And I Darken by Kiersten White. It’s not about WWII, but it is also a speculative fiction. Basically, it’s about what would happen if Vlad II Dracul of Wallachia (who became a prototype for Dracula) was a girl. This book series explores a lot of interesting topics like sibling relationship, queerness, religious guilt due to said queerness, what it’s like to be an anbitious woman in a patriarchal society and many more! The first part of the series can be rather dull, because it focuses on the character’s childhood, but, in my opinion, it is necessary, because it establishes the characters and their dynamics. All of the characters can be considered morally gray, if you are into this type of stuff.
