i read the marriage portrait earlier this year and it became one of my favorite books i’ve ever read. i followed it with women talking by miriam toews that also became one of my favorites. then i went on to read a few other historical fiction and classics that all had romance or romantic themes that i also absolutely loved: learned by heart by emma donoghue, pride and prejudice by jane austen, and the great gatsby.
