Hi all,
I’m going camping in a few weeks and want to buy a book to read while there. I love fantasy, apocalypses, crimes, and romance subplots.
I’m a slow reader and usually give up on a book at the start of approximately act three of the three-act structure, so I’m looking for something short, around 300 pages or less to build up my reading stamina.
I don’t really mind the genre as long as it’s fiction, but I’d love something that fits the nature-y vibe of camping setting-wise.
I’m a bit of a poetry fan in that prose that has a poetic vibe in its descriptions often draws me in, The Book Thief being a major example of the type of writing I love.
Don’t worry if your suggestion doesn’t fit all those criteria, I just wrote it to help set the scene of my reading habits
Thank you all so much 🙂

Robert Heinlein – Tunnel in the Sky, it has exactly about 300 pages. Even though it’s a sci-if genre, the main part of the book goes around how a group of students survive in the wilds of an unknown planet, so it fits the camping vibes.
The Ocean At The End Of The Lane by Neil Gaiman.
Mother Night by Vonnegut
Stephen King – the Colorado Kid is 184 pages. They adapted it into the tv show Haven. Pulpy crime.
The Alchemist is roughly 200 pages and has a poetry vibe.
You might like Legends and Lattes about an orc who decides to open a coffee shop. It’s very fun.
I Who Have Never Known Men, Jacqueline Hartman. It’s only 200 pages and fits a few of the things you’re interested in or looking for. I don’t want to say more and spoil it.
{{The Body by Stephen King}} or {{Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin}} are great short reads, {{Heatwave by Victor Jestin}} is a great read and a campground setting
The ice lion Kathleen O’Neal Gear
The unfolding James s a Corey
The Tao of Pooh – get you in a zen like mood
The Farthest Away Mountain – Childrens book but oh so good
Dandelion Wine – those who’ve read it know, those who haven’t never will
The Box in the Woods – because one creepy one should make the list
The Hidden Life of Trees – you’ll never look at them the same again
Heart of Darkness
