For me, it’s Patricia Highsmith. Based on what I’ve read of her work, she seems to be significantly influenced by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I would even say that I enjoy her works more than his!
Edit: If I have to choose one, it would be ‘The Glass Cell’

Most of the books I read are written by women (not on purpose, I just read a lot of literary fiction from the last ten years, and it seems like there are a lot of women writers in that category,) so I guess here are my favorite books of the year
– Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver (three lovely stories about women living in West Virginia. Their lives are related in interesting ways)
– The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North (the main character is a man. This guy named Harry August keeps reincarnating. A fun and thrilling adventure!)
– Corinne by Rebecca Morrow (it’s a religious romance between someone who has left the faith and someone who is still inside the faith. I don’t typically like romance, but this one ROCKED my ass off. Great great book.)

This is a newer book written by my friend-
In The Shadow of the Prophet by A. Afaf
It’s a beautifully written, shorter novel about a pair of sisters in the Middle East. Touches on religion but also family. Strong female characters for sure 🙂
