Perhaps the books by Anne Perry? Her real name was Juliet Hulme and her and her friend Pauline killed her friend’s mother sometime in the 1950s while they were still in their teens.

Came here to suggest Anne Perry, but in general people who’ve done terrible things stay in prison, and aren’t allowed to profit by their crimes in any way, so don’t tend to be well known writers! Perry left prison whilst still very young and then made her career in writing.
There’s Jeffery Archer, the British peer who went to prison but still churns out his novels [famous for Cain and Abel etc.]
