1984 by George Orwell and The mother by Maxim Gorky are the books I read.
I was left uncomfortable by what ends up happening in both the books but the liked the setup.
I think I am a person who finds solace in reading something set up in cold, less populated, focused stories… May be a snowy Christmas setup minus the Christmas 😅. I hope I am describing correctly.
On a side note, i am currently very depressed. I used to be able to binge tv series like a mad person. That used to be my getaway. Although I want to watch something I left midway, I am unable to pick it back up. I am unable to start any tv series, not even a rewatch. I guess everything feels overwhelming. Only solace being books. So please suggest a good interesting book. But can’t take anymore grimness.

Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata. A love story that takes place in a remote mountainous town in central Japan. The landscape is cold and beautiful.
