In Surfacing, MC rejects American culture and traces back to the Indian American culture, which have been seen as one of Atwood’s ways to pursue indigineity of Canadian literature.
But this is based on the time of globalization where foreign culture invaded so roughly that people started to care about indigenous culture. Today, in a time of post-globalization, maybe we should see the book in a new perspective.
Maybe people should just embace American culture and other cultures, so as to promote Trans.Can.Lit? Or maybe indigenous culture should be the dominant voice? What’s your opinion?
