My favorite books are the All For The Game Series and Captive Prince triology. Especially the former. I really enjoy complex, traumatized characters, complicated relationships and a captivating plot. I’ve read the All For The Game Series by Nora Sakavic maybe 30 times and before this I had never reread a book or a movie ever. It’s a very captivating series combining a new sport (lacrosse meets ice hockey) with organized crime heritage, very troubled characters all with heavy baggage making them very complex. Lots of CW with drug use, violence, abuse, sexual assault etc but not graphic.

Anyways I don’t think it’s the sports aspect or the mafia part but just how well written it is and fleshing out the characters slowly. I literally couldn’t put down the books. I could never anticipate what came next and that makes rereading so fun as well.

If anyone has any recommendations for me I’m happy to explore more captivating stories. I would love something to be absolutely obsessed with again!

    1. The author [Octavia E. Butler](https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/29535.Octavia_E_Butler) writes good characters. She has written mostly science fiction.

I recently read the book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which also had good characters.

The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood is a bit similar in that it has a lot of troubled characters with messed up family dynamics, but I found that the characters didn’t stick with me quite as much.

    2. The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell might be right up your alley.

Also pretty much anything by Octavia E Butler.

A lot of Nnedi Okorafor’s works, like Who Fears Death.
