    Hi,

I’m writing a project on how pregnancy is depicted in Victorian era literature and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on any books. So far, l’ve read Wuthering Heights, Far from the Maddening Crowd and about to read Ruth. Does anyone have any other recommendations? Thanks!!

    1. The Yellow Wallpaper, a short story by Charlotte Perkins Gilpin, isn’t explicitly about pregnancy, but it’s widely considered inspired by her own postpartum depression and that can be read as subtext.

    2. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte

Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy

Tess of D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy

The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne

    3. Margaret Oliphant – Innocent: a tale of modern life

The law and the lady – Wilkie Collins

The clever woman of the family – Charlotte Yonge
