I just read Monuments Men recently and it was really good. It’s about a group of soldiers made up of art historians, artists, architects, etc who had the job of protecting and rescuing art and monuments during world war 2.

The Da Vinci Code. It takes religious symbolism and history to a really good plot level.

Look for books by Thomas Hoving. He was the director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art for many years and wrote several books. I can personally vouch for *False Impressions* and *Making the Mummies Dance*.
Also, look for the work of Sister Wendy Beckett. Her BBC art series was wonderful.
