I see that this book is recommended everywhere almost universally. I just finished and I liked it…BUT…I stopped after about one third because of what felt to me was unbearably slow pacing. Maybe because I am used to shorter chapters these days or just general adhd culture…i mean i listen to everything at x1.5. I started again several months later and powered thru and the second half was considerably better but I still prefer something like Holly’s pacing so much better. I wouldn’t geneally ask this type of question but because the novel is so well recommended, I was thinking am I the weird one feeling this way.

I think because I read The Stand and IT first I knew what to expect with King’s longer works. I guess I don’t even know how to describe why I love it but 11/22/63 and IT are my absolute favorite works by King. And the slower pace of them is a part of it. I feel like I just get to settle in and become fully immersed in this world, even the slower more mundane parts of it.
I don’t think it’s weird for it to not be your style though. Even the most popular books won’t appeal to everyone.
You have your opinion and it is as valid as the next person’s.

That being said, I’m a big King Head and *loved* this book despite it not really being King-esque. I read it maybe 10+ years ago but if I remember right it slows down when he moves to the town and it sort of turns into a romance. I don’t know what to tell you except that I really enjoyed spending time in that town with those characters. The greater plot for sure slows to a crawl. King is very much a character-centric author and I think it really shows in this book.
