I am an avid reader but have only ever read one graphic novel, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi. I’ve recently enjoyed some tv shows that I discovered were based on graphic novels, and realized I might be missing out on a fun genre. These shows included: Lucifer, The Boys, and Locke and Key. I’d like to read something completely new though instead of one of those. Let me know what suggestions you have along the same lines!

Watchmen is widely regarded as one of the best graphic novels ever written. Can’t go wrong with it.

Agreed that Watchmen is the peak of the genre. The Boys wouldn’t exist without it.

Since you like Lucifer, you might like the *Sandman* series, Lucifer is a spin-off from it. The first volume or two are a little rough (still good imo) but it gets truly great as it goes on.

*Maus* is also a good one if you liked Persepolis, it’s the Jewish experience during WW2 Germany so it’s more realistic, but it has a very unusual style choice in that it depicts Jews as mice and Germans as cats while never really calling attention to it in the text.

Paper Girls is another one that has a tv show based on it. i actually haven’t read the graphic novel, only seen the show but you could read and then watch!
