hi friends, I’m on Kafka’s The Castle bc one friend once recommended and I just finished Murakami’s Kafka on the Shore. I guess it’s a good point for me to start reading some of Kafka’s works. However, I found Kafka’s language can be confusing to me sometimes. I’m reading the English ver. but I’m not a native English speaker. I’m not sure if that contributes to my confusion although I feel it’s not the vocab I don’t know. I even found 100 Years of Solitude, which contains much harder vocab and convoluted sentences, easier to read once I got the ‘I’m-in’ sense. Frankly speaking, I’ve fallen asleep several times while reading The Castle. I’m 19 years old. I guess probably I’m still too young to read Kafka??
Does anyone else have trouble with Kafka? It’s a bit frustrating

I haven’t read the castle but I’ve read Metamorphosis by Kafka which was easy to read as a non native eng speaker, also a great read. So maybe start with that?
Even as a native English speaker, it’s written in a strange way on purpose.
I’m a native German Speaker and have only read the Main works in German Language, but i feel like the Castle is just really confusing itself. I would rather advise to start with something as Metamorphosis or the Process; those are easier to get into. But i also felt like the Castle was ment to be a bit confusing but it will be a much easier Read after you have read some of his other Works.
