I just read Night Film by Marisha Pessl for a book club. It came very highly recommended and I HATED it. Most of the opinions I’ve seen online through book reviews are really good though. I’m so confused. I felt like there was no real point of this story and everything felt irrelevant. It was way too long and the ending sucked. Has anyone read this book and felt similarly? Has anyone liked it and can explain why?

It seems like we had a similar reaction to the book, so you’re definitely not alone in feeling that way. The beginning was initially great and very exciting, but quite quickly, the plot got lost in a tangle of mysterious hints and a treasure hunt that eventually bored me, leading me to finish the book with only moderate interest. So you are not alone. In Actually, it’s a shame because if the book had been shorter, Pessl probably could have gotten much more out of the plot.
Could’t get into it. I did love Neverworld Wake by the same author though.
