I am looking for book suggestions, preferably adult, but young adult is fine. However, I’m having difficulty finding books that aren’t overly sexual, contain instances of r@pe, or ped0philia scenery. I’m really not interested in anything containing those themes. And finding anywhere in particular that lists these types of things without reading HOURS of reviews is proving to be a pain in my a$$. I feel I spend more time reading reviews than I do reading books lately. Otherwsie, I’m interested in most genres. Thanks so much in advance!

    1. If you’re open to fantasy, honestly anything by Brandon Sanderson is really good. His Stormlight Archive series can look intimidating, but his novel Elantris is amazing. There’s also the Invisible Library series by Genevieve Cogman which is really interesting. I also read this book called the Magpie Murders by Susan Ryeland which had an interesting premise of a book within a book.

    2. To avoid having to spend so much time on reviews, I recommend checking [doesthedogdie.com](https://doesthedogdie.com) It details trigger warnings in a pretty easy to read manner that can make it quick to cross books off without too much effort.

As for recommendations, Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett is one of my all-time favorites, and definitely doesn’t have any of those themes (although there is one scene in which two characters have 100% consensual sex, it’s not detailed in any way)

Also highly recommend Middlegame by Seanan McGuire

    3. I highly recommend Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. Extremely enjoyable Sci-Fi, I had trouble putting it down

    4. Good_-_Listener on

_All Systems Red_ and its sequels, by Martha Wells. MC/narrator is agender and asexual (and also part robot/part biological)

    5. RiskItForTheBriskit on

      Yukikaze by Chohei Kambiyashi

Legend of the Galactic Heroes by Yoshiki Tanaka (content warning for discrimination though if that bothers you.)

Annihilation by Jeff Vandermeer. I don’t recall there being sa/etc in the sequels either.

Squirrel Girl Universe by Tristan Palmgren (This is a really nice one.)

      Piranesi by Susanna Clark

3 of those are top books of mine and the others are pretty good too.

If you have any questions about them I’d be happy to expand on whatever you’re concerned about.

Edit: I also use a website called Storygraph which has content warnings added by readers. Since it’s by readers though, it’s so so.

    6. Terry Pratchett is a safe option. And a wonderful author. I see you’ve already done Good Omens – why not try Guards! Guards!

    7. Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree might be a good fit! There isn’t anything I’d really consider sexual in it (there *is* however a few instances of harassment of that nature, I’d recommend checking out [this page](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/34c66d4e-2363-4a88-a43e-40baacae7afa/content_warnings) and clicking through the tags to get a better idea of it, though be mindful of potential spoilers if that’s something you’re worried about). It’s a cozy fantasy read, in a coffee shop, with some Sapphic romance in there.

I’m pretty sensitive to those things too, so I could come up with a longer list if you wanted to narrow down genres, but

*Klara and the Sun* and *Remains of the Day,* both by Kazuo Ishiguro (literary, calm)

*Iona Iverson’s Rules for Commuting* by Clare Pooley (light and a little fluffy. There’s a PG romance that’s not the main storyline)

*Demon Copperhead* by Barbara Kingsolver might contain brief acknowledgments that people had sex, but it’s always consensual and not a major theme or I’d remember. (someone correct me if I’m wrong though – it was a long book and lots of stuff happened, lol) (literary, heavy)

*True Biz* by Sara Nović (slightly heavy, I guess)

*On Earth as it is On Television* by Emily Jane (light, sort of sci-fi)

*The Memory Police* by Yōko Ogawa has non-explicit sex mentioned, only once or twice.Fade-to-black sort of scenes. (Literary, dystopian)

Anything by Fredrik Bachman EXCEPT Beartown, which is a whole different mood from his other stuff and is actually an incredibly insightful book but it’s centered on SA. His other stuff is completely trigger-free, my favorite is *Anxious People*. (light)

*Babel*, by R.F. Kuang (literary, long and serious)

(that’s just from the last few months and not necessarily a top ten list. Just trying to offer some variety)
