I know he’s not the most popular, but I enjoyed the Dan Brown books when I read them in my late teens. I think I enjoyed them because they weren’t too complicated, they had decent action, lots of cliffhangers at the end of chapters, and things like that. I enjoyed Digital Fortress and Deception Point.

I also have read some of the Halo books because I love Sci Fi and also love the video game. However. With Halo, sometimes it’s so difficult for me to conceptualize what the author is trying to describe because it’s so sci fi, you can’t conceptualize it unless the author makes it easy and simple. Maybe I’m dumb lol.

So what I am looking for is a good mystery thriller type book (Sci Fi is a plus) that is gripped, written well, and is also easy to read. I want to not get bored with the book and really want to use this to restart my reading hobby I left over 10 years ago.

A buddy of mine mentioned Michael Crichton. Any recommendations for his books or similar authors?

    Thanks guys!

    1. John Marrs writes thrillers that sometimes have a sci-fi twist. The One is my favourite book by him, it’s set in a dystopian future where scientists have found a way to match soulmates based on DNA. Feels like a Black Mirror episode if you liked that TV show.

The chapters are short and there are some great twists and turns. It’s one of the most gripping books I’ve ever read!

(It’s quite dark and has some graphic violence though, just as a warning if that’s not your kind of thing!)

    2. Deep Storm (an older book from 2007) by Lincoln Childs is a thriller that takes place under the sea. “Twelve-thousand feet beneath the Atlantic Ocean….. scientists are excavating the most extraordinary undersea discovery ever made. But is it the greatest archaeological find in history—or the most terrifying?” Shades of Sci-fi, it was a fun read. One of my favorite Michael Crichton books was Timeline.
