Every aspect of my life is okay – family, career, friends, romantic relationship. I’m also financially comfortable. I’m genuinely grateful, but somehow, I can’t help but feel sad / empty sometimes. I don’t know my purpose, not excited about what’s next, and sometimes I feel like I can die any time and I would be okay with that.
I met with someone I look up to today. He was my mentor. He shared he feels the same way sometimes. So I want to be of help to him and give him a book that may help him with these feelings?
I want to read the book, see if it helps me, and then give it to him, if that makes sense.

The Midnight Library is probably going to be the most common modern answer to this. It’s pretty “basic” and has broad appeal, but I think the author is very genuine and imo it comes across in the novel.
Another standard answer, but a lot of Murakami books do the lost/stagnant/low-key depressed thing very well.
Otherwise, following this thread for other ideas.
