I am looking for a new book to read. Can be anything, but I do enjoy historical setting and mysteries. I would also be grateful if you give me a bit of the context on why you liked the book, not just the title. I am looking for function.

Alamut by Vladimir Bartol
The Martha Grimes Richard Jury mysteries are beautifully written with interesting characters and settings.
The Man with a Load of Mischief is the first one.
All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Historical fiction pre and during WWII. Story follows 2 central characters, a German boy and a French girl. Chapters rotate between the 2 characters. Beautifully written and a page turner, as you want to see what happens with the 2 characters as time passes.
