    Hello Reddit.
I used to be an avid reader but then, well, life happened. And now I have time to start reading again but I have no idea what book to pick up. I’ve tried scrolling through suggestions online but there are just so many out there, I’m hoping for a more tailored reply.
As for what I’m looking for? Honestly, I’m not entirely sure. Something interesting to read. Since that’s not useful here are some details. Obviously, no book will check all my boxes so just think of it the more checks, the better.
    Genres I’m interested in:
    \-Mystery
    \-Thriller
    \-Crime Fiction
    \-Horror
    \-Sci-fi
    \-Urban Fantasy
Genres I’m **not** so interested in:
    \-Romance (as the focus)
    \-Historical Fiction
    \-Comedy
    Elements I’m interested in:
    \-LGBT+ themes (particularly gay men)
\-Important characters that have a disability
    \-Melancholic tone
    \-Shifting focus/ensemble cast
    \-Dark themes
Elements I’m **not** so interested in:
\-Young ‘spunky’ female main character (not currently in the mood)
    \-Slice of life
    \-Romance as the central theme
Books I’ve recently read that I enjoyed:
Blood Stained Tea by Amy Tasukada (I realize this is a series and I’m reading the second one, just not as enamored as I was with the first)
    Reprieve by James Han Mattson

The Alienist by Caleb Carr – a crime thriller that takes place in 1890s New York. Like Victorian Criminal Minds, it’s very good. I’m not sure how much I would say it has LGBT themes in it because it involves boy prostitutes dressed in drag, but they’re victims of a serial killer. Characters do have disabilities.
