With all the hype for the sequel iron flame it’s making me wonder if the series is worth getting into. Fantasy is not a genre I have gotten into. I read more romance and chick lit. Is it as good as everyone says that I should give it a try?

    1. I love fantasy and fourth wing was a DNF for me.

The plot didn’t appeal to me. It’s about a girl who is nothing like her family, and also not like the other girls. She goes to super bad ass magic dragon school where she doesn’t fit in because she’s different, but really her being different doesn’t make her just weird it also makes her special. And the hottest guy at school falls in love with her. But he is from a rival family like Capulets and Montagues . And also their dragons are in love with each other. And the kids at the school can kill each other.

    2. Funny, I just started it last night. My sense so far is that it’s kinda like Bridgerton. There are plenty of greater examples of period dramas-but it’s very accessible to non period drama fans & has fun with romance.

    3. The author said in an interview that they specifically created this series and it is written for people like you! She wanted to create an “entry level” novel to fantasy for people who read contemporary fiction!

That’s why you see a lot of reviews of “it’s so predictable” or “it’s not the best literature out there”- because these statements are both true to people who read a lot of fantasy. The series is quite literally one fantasy trope after the other.

I’m an avid fantasy reader and I really enjoyed it! Fourth Wing is a light, funny, and very entertaining read!

I’m listening to the second book that just came out today. The first book is good. So far I like it better than the second. And Fourth Wing is not quality by any means, kind of like watching a dumb reality show you can’t stop watching. Just fun and light like the person below said.

    5. my wife and i loved the 1st book. we had checked it out from the library but we spent our audible credits getting it and the 2nd book this month. we’re going to start it soon. got busy with life today so weren’t able to start it. don’t go into it expecting the great american novel or something, but as a romancey book it’s quite entertaining. enjoyed it a lot.

    6. I’m almost finished with the first one right now! I honestly don’t understand what there isn’t to love; a college for dragon riders, a protagonist who is strong-willed despite being an underdog, and a fast-paced brutal storyline. As for the love interest, if you like characters like Azriel from ACOTAR or Rowan from TOG, you’ll love him. And the dragons. LOVE the dragons.

    7. It depends. It’s true that Fourth Wing can be a good entry book, BUT to Romantasy and not Fantasy(with maybe romance subplot). Fourth Wing follows very typical tropes and is not very strong in character development and world building, thats why it wasn’t for me. You can definetly enjoy it If you can overlook logical flaws and mostly like the vibe of a book(and a plot centered around romance).
