One of the reasons we never got “Parable of the Trickster” is that one of Butler’s plans was to have all the >!colonists!< go blind, and have to build/re-build a society that way. But José Saramago published “Blindness” and she felt it covered too much of the same ground.
I liked “Blindness”, but I’d have killed for “Parable of the Trickster”.
