Hi, I've just discovered that there is an entire subgenre of queer fiction in the form of lesbian pulp fiction that came out in the 50s/ 60s. I'd love to have some good titles or story collections recommended to me 🙂
The most famous (and best) is The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith, which technically isn’t really pulp.
Otherwise Ann Bannon’s Beebo Brinker Chronicles is probably the most readable series.
Unsurprisingly, a lot of lesbian pulp was a) really bad, and b) super homophobic. The overwhelming majority was also written by men, under female pseudonyms. Most of it is interesting as historical artifacts, rather than as actual novels you’d read for fun these days.
