Right now I have Lonesome Dove, Dune, or Pillars of Earth on deck for my next read and can’t decide between the three, I know they are all vastly different. I am also up for any other suggestions. I really like all genres. I was in my romance era this year, but as the year winds down, I want to escape into an epic story that really pulls me in.

fair and tender ladies by Lee Smith is not exactly epic. it’s just the life of an appalachian woman from her childhood in about 1910 up to her death, as told by herself in letters. but it’s so immersive and she is so compelling.

    2. Vorkosigan series, by Lois McMaster Bujold. I will read these 13+ books again once I recover from binging them last month. This has romance, multi-generational plot lines, alien planets, so much outer space shenanigan-ing…. It’s the first truly sci-fi series I’ve ever absolutely adored. Lots of really wonderful characters. Beware reading in chronological vs published order. She’s also got the Sharing Knife books, and the Curse of Chalion, which you might like.

If you want dense, go Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time. Also great characters, but very hard to read sometimes.

Robin Hobb’s Farseer books are fantastic, and she has several series set in the same world. Highly recommend, if fantasy is more your thing. Loved the Liveship Traders too.
