No judgment. Not the biggest fan of smut. I think it’s fine if that’s part of the story, but I’m far more interested in historical accuracy and adaptations of old folklore.

{{ Sun of Blood and Ruin by Mariely Lares }} is set in an alternate history Mexico, with an emphasis on Aztec and other such folklore.
{{ A Master of Djinn by P. Djèlí Clark}} is set in an alternate history Egypt where magical beings have been reintroduced to the world. The MC is in a romantic relationship but the emphasis is on the mystery plot. There are a couple of short stories that chronologically precede the main novel.
{{ The Ghost Bride by Yangtze Choo}} is a historical fantasy set in Malaysia. I believe the author has written other folklore inspired fantasies as well.
{{ Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse}} is set in a fantasy world primarily inspired by indigenous American folklore/mythologies. A couple of the characters have sex but I don’t recall it being described in detail. (Trilogy)

{{The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden}} is a Russian historical fantasy drawing on Russian folklore and the clash between tradition and Christianity. (Trilogy)
