Hey, everyone! Probably my favorite theme in literature/media ever is generational trauma—the way that a family’s pain is perpetually passed down, and the difficulty (impossibility?) of breaking the cycle.
Because of this, I loved Colleen McCullough’s The Thorn Birds when I read it earlier this year. I absolutely adored sharing in the struggles and triumphs of these three generations of women. Since then, I feel like I’ve been chasing the high that this book gave me, but I have yet to find it again!
I would love some suggestions! What are some books similar to The Thorn Birds? The generational aspect of it is most important, but I do really enjoy McCullough’s writing style as well, and of course who doesn’t also love a twisted and/or doomed love story?
As far as genres go, I’m not picky at all and like a bit of everything. Historical fiction is my favorite, but I enjoy anything that has strong world-building and good characters. I love well-written sibling relationships, too.
Thank you so much, in advance! I love this sub!

Pillars of the Earth, read it as a stand alone, and if you love it, you can go backwards in time to the origins, it’s VERY good, but there’s always someone you wish would up and die painfully. I love Ken Follet.
