hi ! planning to buy the book called "a little life", since i've read some reviews abt it and im getting so curious to read it. is it really worth the penny? haha pls i need answers 🙁
I found it a little disappointing, after seeing so many recommendations. It is overall a fairly good read (just not a brilliant read as some reviews laud it, imo ofc) – some of the characters are engaging, as are their various development and storylines. It’s well written – however, the second half becomes what others have aptly described as “trauma porn” or a escalating tableau of really quite extreme suffering – this aspect dictates the plots, character development and their various story arcs and inter-relations. The tradegy and trauma is heaped and trowelled on very heavily (very!) and may stretch credulity more than a tad – it still does have the element of twists and surprises, even if these are all wrapped in abject misery. Not for the faint hearted.

very polarizing book. many people put it in the “torture porn” category of fiction. i personally loved it and found the characters incredibly real. 💕
