The Chicks in Chainmail series is great. Some funny stories, some more serious, but I have enjoyed them all.

I’m not a fan of a lot of the short stories written by some of the “greats” like Denis Johnson/ Raymond Carver/ Alice Munro/ Lorrie Moore/ George Saunders (I respect their talent; just not my thing, plus I’m sure other people will recommend them), so this is kind of a list to contrast their style of writing.
“Get In Trouble” by Kelly Link– sem-fantastical very inventive stories
“The Paper Menagerie” by Ken Liu– some really great sci-fi and spec fic
“Battleborn” by Claire Vaye Watkins
If you like really weird surrealist stories: “A Guide to Being Born” by Ramona Ausubel and “Willful Creatures” by Aimee Bender”
“interpreter of Maladies” by Jhumpa Lahiri is another one of my favorites.
And if you like stories that are related to each other but can also stand alone, I also recommend Jennifer Egan’s “Candy House” and “A Visit from the Goon Squad” as well as Elizabeth Strout’s “Olive Kittredge” and “Olive, Again”
