Suggest me A fantasy book!!

I want to say for an example, I did love Lord of the Rings, however the language is old like. "Nay, thee. thy." which is a bit hard for me because I'm not native, and the writer tend to ramble in certain moments that slows down the pace of the book.

So suggest to me a Fantasy book series with charming writing style not too old fashioned. Fictional towns at war, maybe some nice action mixed in from military knights fighting or just characters who can fight. Who is friend and who is foe I guess it's called "political intrigue?" I don't mind the plot to be dark but not too dark. So do not suggest to me A song of ice and fire.

Also if it is possible suggest to me a series that has a character like Gandalf. Thank you in advanced.
