Fiction novel set in a desert archaeological dig?

Hi all!

I'd love to read a novel with a setting similar to the Exorcist prequel movie (Dominion), where they dig up a ruined church buried in the sand somewhere in the middle east. I don't care too much if the novel is more adventure, historic, or horror leaning, I'm more interested in the setting and the atmosphere. Does anyone have any suggestion?
