Hello, I want to give a disclaimer that I am blind and composing this post through voice to text. So any weird word anomalies can probably be attributed to that whether it is a typo or the strange use of a word that might otherwise be a homophone. OK here goes.

I am interested in books where through the course of the book it becomes readily apparent to the reader that the author apparently holds their fans or the reader in great contempt. Or maybe the author holds the genre within which they are writing in great contempt, for whatever reason, such as maybe The author might feel pigeonholed in what they are writing and are simply lashing out and making the story as obnoxious as possible to highlight or present glaring tropes.

One example I have seen in the past is at detective in a story openly, criticizing and lambasting fans of true crime shows or stories within the pages of an actual crime novel. Or a side character questioning the protagonist about whether or not they find serial killers interesting at an intellectual level, not necessarily the actions of the crimes itself, but motivations and such And in return, the protagonist goes on a bit of a tirade ripping apart the idea of fans of crime genres, and the like being detestable, again within the pages of a crime novel. Sometimes it seems as if the author is lashing out at the readers, they know will be Reading this book and using the protagonist as a Finly failed mouthpiece to express their own personal opinions as the writer.

But please do not feel like I’m only looking for crime novels or something like that. Those are just the couple examples that I thought of even though I have read some fantasy books and other types of literature that seem to touch on the idea that magic is stupid fantasy books are stupid Within the pages of books in those very same genres. I think lot of satire books are not written with love for the subjects in which they parody, but actually written with distain because they hate the whole genre and they just wanna write a slap in the face to the reader. Or maybe I’m being paranoid in that regard, But I have read as an example that the creator of the comic book that the Amazon show the boys is based on mainly created the comic book as over the top and the characters as the testable as possible, and the situations they find themselves in as revolting as possible, simply because they hate The standard comic book fair. I don’t know the actual truthfulness of the situation in regards to that creator, but it always stuck with me because that particular show which I watched a few seasons of before I went blind, was riveting and well presented by the shows translation of the comic, which I never actually read. so even though the creator may have something like this in a an attempt to express their distaste for the genre and my opinion, it seems to worked out for the best as far as the show that was made based off of that.

I went on a little bit of attention there on that last paragraph and I apologize, because this is a form about Books. But it was a memorable tidbit that lightly touches on sort of what I’m looking for in the book world. I’m not looking for satire or parody, explicitly, but a story that is supposed to be taken on its face is a genuine attempt to entertain or hook the reader, but as the story goes on or upon inspection or a second read, it might become obvious that there is perhaps a secondary motivation on the part of the author to sort of smack the readers over the head for whatever reason and not out of love or an interesting helping them understand something greater but merely to spank them.

Thank you for reading this long rambling post. Have a great weekend. And thank you for any suggestions that might come in.
