I stumbled onto new author for me a while back Kali Wallace. First read Dead Space and the Salvation Day, both are great fast paced standalone SciFi novels. Also read Shallow Graves which I was less into feeling it wasn’t as gritty as I would want a teenager must solve her own murder book. I later found out it was a YA novel which explained the lack of grit I wanted. My daughter 15F told me she had read it last year and enjoyed it

Snuff by Chuck Palahniuk is a real (gross) page-turner.

I really liked “Five survive” by Holly Jackson. It´s a fast-paced thriller and a standalone.

All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. It’s about a fresh out of boot camp private who dies in his first battle against the aliens that are invading Earth, only to find himself repeating the same two days over and over.
Due note though, there is a depiction of suicide early on and a case of the f-slur used in the first half, along with some descriptions that has not aged well. The novel was written in 2004 and translated in 2010.
