I love stories where you slowly realize the MC is what caused things to go wrong or otherwise the bad guy. Not so much in a "oh this had consequences you didn't realize so it caused the problems'" but rather they acted intentionally and were just a shitty person

Horrors/thrillers like that are my fave, but I'm open to other genres. I like weird stuff and abstract stuff particularly, so don't worry about "difficult" reads. Real mind melters would be great lol

Have you heard of the Vicious series by V.E. Schwab? Your post reminds me of it, I just finished the two books she’s done in that series so far. Basically, two pre-med students have to write their thesis, and one of them chooses how to get superpowers. And the only way you can get superpowers is by doing something…dangerous. I don’t want to spoil it lol

      >!Never Lie!< by Frieda McFadden. Narrator seems like a damsel in distress at first. 1st person POV. >!at the end you find out she’s a manipulative murderer!<

These Violent Delights by Micah Nemerever. I won’t say much more, but this book is truly a masterclass in writing character devolution/regression, and the prose is absolutely beautiful as well. Reading it was genuinely a visceral experience.
