So I work at a bookstore and have access to all the books, problem is, I’ve hit a slump and nobody I work with has been able to recommend something that really hits.
My favourites this year have been:
– I Cheerfully Refuse by Leif Enger
– Thirst by Marina Yuszczuk
– Poor Deer by Claire Oshetsky
– Station Eleven by Emily St. Mandel
– Nicked by M.T Anderson
– Martyr by Kaveh Akbar
– There Are Rivers in the Sky by Elif Shafak
Lit fic is generally my favourite genre and my go to. I like prose heavy, character and/or theme focused stories. I like things that are different, abstract, or detailed. Touches of magical realism, sci fi, dystopian, etc are great as well!
If anyone has any recommendations along those lines, I would really appreciate it!!

Middlesex by Eugenides should suit you perfectly
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami – Definitely big in magical realism for Japanese fiction
