My top 1 is The Road by Cormac McCarthy. Made me realise how precious the natural world is, and what a horrible place a world without a functioning biosphere would be. Once certain species go extinct, there’s no putting it right again, when society collapses, it can’t be put back. The novel really hits home how devastating events like the climate crisis, biodiversity crisis, or a nuclear war may be, not just in the short term, but also for all the rest of the time that humans would remain to walk the earth.
